South African Airways
South African Airways (SAA) is South Africa’s leading airline, flying to 26 countries on 6 continents. It has its main hubs at Cape Town and Johannesburg. SAA offers over 20 domestic routes, including 20 daily flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The airline is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance.
SAA operate First, Business and Economy classes on international flights, and only Business and Economy on domestic flights. First Class passengers may take advantage of curb side check in as soon as they arrive at O.R. Thambo Airport in Johannesburg. SAA’s Business Class seat on its fleet of Airbus A340’s has been voted “World’s Best Business Class Seat” by Skytrax. On flights of over three hours in duration, inflight entertainment of movies and TV is available in all classes. On international flights, an Audio Visual On Demand (AVOD) system is available, along with a complimentary meal service.
SAA’s loyalty programme is called Voyager. Membership levels are Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Lifetime Platinum. Points earned can be used to purchase free flights, upgrades, car rental and many other benefits, including lounge access for members holding the membership level of Silver or above.
Business Class passengers may use the Baobab Lounge, where there is a private smoking lounge, parents lounge, bars and shower facilities. First Class passengers may additionally use the Cyocad Premium Lounge at Johannesburg Airport. This offers facilities including a business centre, snooze rooms and complimentary meals. First and Business Class passengers are also eligible to use SAA lounges, and those of the Star Alliance, at airports around the world.
