British Airways
British Airways (BA) is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom and a member of the Oneworld airline alliance. BA has its main hub at London Heathrow (LHR) airport, where it will be based at the new Terminal 5 upon its opening in 2008. Flights from Johannesburg arrive and depart from Heathrow. BA also has hubs at London Gatwick and Manchester airports. Comair is a franchise partner of BA and flies passengers from cities including Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg.
British Airways operates First, Club World (Business), World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) and World Traveller (Economy) classes on its long haul flights. In all classes, there is a complimentary bar and meal service and seat back entertainment systems. World Traveller Plus offers greater space and meal choice than that available in World Traveller. Passengers in Club World and First are able to take advantage of dedicated check-in facilities at the airport, Fast Track arrivals at London Heathrow and London Gatwick and a superior service on board the aircraft.
On short haul flights across Europe, BA operates Club Europe and Euro Traveller cabin classes, both of which offer complimentary refreshments and inflight entertainment.
Executive Club is the frequent flyer programme of BA. Membership levels are Blue, Silver and Gold and benefits of membership include free flights, upgrades and priority check in. Lounge access is a benefit of membership available to members who possess Silver Executive Club membership or above, as well as those travelling on a First or Business Class ticket. Lounges offer meals and beverages, showers and business facilities.
